The bespoke art book ‘Queen of the Night’ appeared in the Artists’ Book Award 2023 at Manly Art Gallery & Museum.
This work is inspired by the ‘Queen of the Night’, a fascinating orchid cactus whose majestic water lily shaped flower reveals its glory in the still of the night. At dawn, it folds into a bud-like delicate pink.
I wanted to explore in visual and poetic terms the delicate nature of this beautiful plant. I chose watercolour paper which I tore into organic shapes and then rolled the paper adding to the organic feel. Pink and green being complementary opposites were chosen to convey the strong contrast between day and night.
